Rough Sketch

This is a rough draft picture that became a larger drawing for Bad Dream.

How did I do that? Well, this image was sketched between basketball games at one of my children’s high school. Taking something to doodle around on is really helpful when you are trying to come up with illustrations for a book. Often ideas come at the most inopportune times, like between JV and Varsity basketball games.

When it came to the actual illustration for the book, the images had to be drawn larger, in order to hide my errors, and then reduced to the size required for printing the book. So before the final illustrations were drawn, the page size and format had to be determined. Then increase that size by about 35%. (Don’t quote me on that, do your own research in paper and print, one way the internet is useful.)
